Tacos on Twitter – a great example of how Twitter can be used as a marketing tool

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

We love discovering social media being used in interesting ways, and here’s a great one.  In Los Angeles, California, there are two trucks that serve Korean BBQ Tacos from the roadside.  For many parts of the world, this is common practice.

What’s unique about how Kogi operates though, is its use of a Twitter account to let their 8,000+ followers know where they’re going to be next.  I’m told this often results in a crowded footpath, waiting for the truck to appear over the horizon.

Kogi has embraced other media too.  It uses photo sharing site, Flickr, to show recent photos, which is also displayed on their web site/blog.

This is a clever use of free tools to help market a business, as well as to keep in touch with customers (especially if Kogi end up running late).

All in a night’s work… and all in aid of charity

McCann copywriter, Kerry Harrison, has been busy training for the 2009 London Marathon and working hard to raise money for her chosen charity, also McCann Bristol’s dedicated charity, the National Autistic Society (NAS).

To help boost her fundraising, Kerry organised a pub quiz at the Hop House in Clifton Village Bristol, which took place on Thursday 13 March.  A team of us went along to test our general knowledge and support Kerry.  The evening was a great success and over £320 was raised.

The NAS provides incredible support to children, adults and families affected by Autism.

Kerry commented on the evening: “We had a brilliant night and I’m really grateful to everyone who came along to show their support and to help raise money for such an important cause.”

We look forward to seeing how much Kerry raises for NAS and will be supporting her all the way… including the big run!
